7 Special Places to Visit Solo in 2020

I began backpacking solo in 2017, taking my first solo trip to Argentina and traveling alone for a month and a half. It was the best decision I have ever made as a woman:) and it has changed the way I travel. Ever since I traveled to South East Asia, Europe and went back to South America. In 2019 I visited 6 amazing countries alone in Europe and South America, and it has been absolutely fantastic, so I am going to share with 7 of my all-time favorite, mind-blowing and ideal destinations to discover alone in 2020.

The Red Valley, Peru

Not many of those who travel in Cusco and Sacred Valley, know about this hidden gem, and not all travel agencies offer a tour to the Red Valley, even though it’s just up the hill from the famous and crowded Rainbow mountain. The Red Valley is an absolute must to visit if you are spending time in Cusco, because of the reddish hills, bluest sky and lagoons, it will literally take your breath away, at 5200 meters altitude.

Salar De Uyuni – the largest salt desert

With tours leaving from Uyuni town daily, you could experience this marvelous wonder in Bolivia in 1 day or spend 4 days, and visiting the national park of Bolivia, Eduardo Avaroa, like I have this year. At the end of April, right at the end of the rainy season, a stunning and intriguing effect of a light water layer created on the salty ground. As a result, what is called the reflection effect is what attracted me to travel to the Salar. It was one of the highlights of my trip to see for myself the place where sky and earth become one. We were a group of 6 travelers and I can honestly say, the Salar just blew our minds away.

Huascaran National Park, Peru

Located a half-day drive from Huaraz, Huascaran park is a trekking paradise. I have traveled to many countries, seen many lakes and lagoons, but the double lagoon I have seen on the way to the Santa Cruz trek, is the beautiful of them all.

Venice, Italy

Just as much as I love hiking and the outdoors, I also love unique cities, especially if they are colorful, and are built on water. Venice in Italy is the most stunning city, with the Venetians leading all their lives on the water. I loved wandering around the streets, over the bridges and felt absolutely enchanted and completely safe! During my 4 days trip in Venice, I also visited the magnificent Burano island.

Prague

Because of the bridges, the view points, the special cuisine, beer cheaper than water (in Israel it is super expensive in pubs and bars) and again because of the colors and being super safe for female solo travelers. I have heard a lot about Prague and usually I prefer not traveling to very touristic places, but Prague is a European gem, with its castles, churches and green parks. I will definitely come back!

Vietnam

I visited Vietnam in 2017, and it is still by far one of the most interesting and beautiful countries I have ever visited. From traditional Hanoi, to modern Ho Chi Minn, from the crazy traffic to the delicious food, floating markets and nature, Vietnam will never go out of style. It is super easy to travel alone in Vietnam since the local agencies are very organized and you could plan your entire trip and book everything with a tour operator or from the hostel’s reception. The Vietnamese are very friendly people and I have found it to be very easy and safe to travel.

The Philippines

The people are the friendliest, most welcoming and warm, the islands are an absolute paradise with clear pristine water, amazing underwater world, and these are just a few of the reasons you will fall in love with the Philippines, even if you don’t like sunbathing and find beaching very boring.

I have traveled to all these beautiful destinations alone and I hope I inspired you to take your first solo trip and to visit one of these great destinations in the near future,

Bon Voyage!

  2. It’s very safe to visit Vietnam as a solo traveler because I’ve traveled severally there. Similarly to the rest of Southeast Asia, Vietnam is considered one of the safest special place to travel solo in 2020.
